THE REAL STORY ABOUT BIG EYES (click here to read more)

When I first watched the movie “Big Eyes”, directed by Tim Burton, I thought it was impossible for someone to steal another person’s credit and profit from their talent for so many years. However, by the end of the movie, I discovered that these events had actually happened.

The film was released in 2014, it is set in the 1960s, and it follows the story of a woman who creates unique paintings, but, because of the time, sexism and her husband’s arrogance, her husband takes credit for her paintings and manipulates the main character into staying silent for years while he receives the fame and admiration. However, her journey does not end there. She eventually overcomes her fears, stands up to social pressure and claims recognition for her own work.

When I discovered that the film was based on real events, I assumed the story had happened a very long time ago. I was surprised to learn that the woman it was based on, Margaret Keane, lived until 2022. This reminded me that injustices like this are still common today. Even now, many women are denied credit for their work while others receive recognition for their achievements.

The movie combines art and history, reminding us that we can overcome difficult situations.

Margaret Keane’s story shows the importance of courage. It shows us how even when it feels like everyone is against us, when fear holds us back, or when a problem seems impossible to solve, we can always overcome anything with bravery and support.

If you decide to watch the film, remember Margaret Keane’s words: “I hope it will help inspire some people to have the courage to do what’s right and keep a good conscience.” She also said, “I just hope that people who see this movie will realize that even a little white lie can lead to unbelievable things.”

Watching “Big Eyes” is a great choice if you want to learn more about art or if you need encouragement to leave a harmful situation or relationship. Margaret herself had a positive opinion of the film. In an interview, she said, “Seeing it on the big screen was overwhelming. Christoph looked and acted just like Walter. And Amy portrayed just how I felt”.
